At least the rain was warm

Thunderstorm last night broke the drought. my timing was a bit off as we had arranged to have dinner in an area called Palermo (which i now know is a bowl shape). It was raining hard when i managed to muscle an old lady out of the way for a taxi. we drove through some pretty impressive water backing up along the streets and i should have noticed that there were no lights on for the last few blocks of the journey. The driver got to the restuarant, where i had agreed to met Sam (oz) & Dan (swiss). I should have smelled a rat when two people virtually dragged me out of the cab whilst trying to pay.

Matt, one of the Aussies, has kindly sent me some pictures he took on the night. i dont know why it is on its side (it isn't on my computer) perhaps because it was taken by an Aussie half way from down under?

I found myself at a restuarant with a flooded cellar, no electricity & in torrential rain,  Sam apppeared from the shadows, completely soaked & we got a call from Dan saying they had shut the underground down & he was stranded half way to meet us. I had just let the last taxi go that we would see for an hour or more!

Sam had walked past shops with 2 feet of water in them.so we decided to walk our way back in to civilisation as apparently we were in a "bowl" which was getting the worst of the flooding.

Some soggy time later we found a bar that had beer but no lights (apart from candles) & it was Warsteiner!

  2. And into a bowl!! What chance does he have once he starts his proper adventure. Had problems replying on the blog the other day, so this is a bit late but just wanted to revisit Imola! - Yes, Imola............ All I wanted to do (on THAT night) was have a nice cleansing ice cream and retire to bed, but Oh no, you had other ideas and were intent on buying drinks for everyone in the pub, and people on the street! the whole of Imola, even! I bet those people will be awaiting your return later this year. I do agree with Ian tho, Thomas is to be avoided at all costs - he is far too dangerous and Wilks, you are very welcome to visit any time and we would be very happy to take you for a spin in the old Ford. You may then appreciate why we didn't offer you drive it back thro the Alps for us!! Rumour has it that you are headed down SA direction. I expect your brother will make sure he is well out of harms way by the time you arrive!

Those pisco sours do sound rather delicious, I must say!
    Cheers,

    Clara.

    1. Fair point well made.

Clara, I do remember having to drag you into the bar and tie you to a chair so that you couldn't escape!

i suggest you never make wilks an offer like that, he will fly back from Brazil! I had a porsche once and whilst staying at his place, he got up one early one sunday morning & "borrowed" the car to get a newspaper. Didnt see him for the rest of the day and it had miles on the clock (must have got the Edinburgh Post)!
